Meet the friendly staff at Agawam Animal Hospital!

  • John E. Guntly
“I had a family science background growing up and a strong attraction to the animal world. Veterinary medicine fulfilled the perfect complementary union for me. I love the diversity of patients and the fact that every day is different. I look at every patient in the context of its unique human-companion animal bond. Clients say I have a calming effect on the patients. I think they sense that I want to help them be free of discomfort and enjoy a longer, higher-quality life.”

'I moved to the area in 1985, shortly after graduating from the University of New Hampshire, with a major in Animal Science. Soon after, I began working at the Agawam Animal Hospital. I'm very passionate about my love of animals and enjoy helping clients manage their pet’s health. I have 2 adult children and live in CT with my husband , our dog, Dharma and 2 cats, Moe and Willoughby. When I'm away from my job, I pursue my interests in cooking, gardening, reading and camping with family/friends.'

'The reason I entered this field was to be able to help in the care of animals. It is rewarding to help with the improvement of the quality of someone's care and happiness. What I love about my job is being able to aid in the care for the ill and help in improving their quality of life. Being surrounded by four-legged creatures who enjoy your company is always rewarding and good for the soul. My personal interests are dog sitting, yoga, pilates, hiking, traveling, photography and reading.'

'I have been a veterinary technician for 10 years. I attended Becker College. I have three cats, Ivy, Ren and Harold. I also have a yellow-bellied slider turtle named Bob. I have wanted to work with animals since I was a little kid. I’m glad I followed my dream!'

“I've been part of the hospital team for four years now. I joined the team to gain experience with animals, while in school pursuing my bachelor's in ecology and master's in conservation biology. My favorite part about my job is working with animals and knowing I can help make a difference in their lives. It always brings a smile to my face when I see previously unhealthy animals that we helped make a full recovery. “My personal interests are in avian care, training and conservation. I have multiple volunteer and internship positions allowing me to gain additional experience with birds such as parrots, toucans, song birds, owls and kestrels.”
